Garden Helpers – not!

Sunday was warm and muggy but cool enough in the morning that I could get out and tidy some of the back garden. Himself came to help. Sometimes husbands and kids are more of a hinderance to keeping the garden tidy, then a help. In his vigor to pull out seedling maples, he uprooted a little Dark Elephant Ears (Colocasia – Black Magic). Normally this would notbe a problem as they had self seeded a little and were a happy group. This year, however, they didn’t make it except for that one little guy. The winter was cold enough and the amount of mulch thin enough that most of the cannas struggled to return as well.

Then the veggie bed was struggling too. I had a few lettuce and mesclum, but not as many as usual. Last evening I found the culprit – the giant rabbit can climb into the raised bed! Here he is enjoying the fresh vegetables.
